Man extradited to Australia over $5.6m fraud case

A man accused of more than 30 counts of fraud has been extradited back to Australia to face court.

Daniel Albert, 51, is facing charges of fraud involving more than $5.6 million.

He refused to comment when accosted by A Current Affair at Sydney Airport yesterday.

The Fraud Squad Strike Force Summercloud was set up in 2015 to investigated a number of allegedly fraudulent investment schemes.

Fraud and Cyber Crime Squad detectives travelled to Auckland earlier this week and were granted Mr Albert's extradition under the New Zealand Extradition Act.

It will be alleged Mr Albert set up bogus franchise companies in Australia and duped investors to sink their money into them, in some cases up to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A Current Affair understands the complaints involve four companies, and the ACCC has also been looking into Mr Albert's alleged activities.

The investigation is part of an international investigation, with some of the alleged victims living overseas.

Mr Albert has been refused bail and will face court today.
