Tributes flow for Sunshine Coast dad killed by shark

A man who died after being attacked by a shark off Fraser Island has been identified as father-of-two Matthew Tratt.

Mr Tratt, an air-conditioning contractor from Buderim, was fatally mauled by the shark while spearfishing with his brother off Indian Head at about 2pm yesterday.

A doctor and paramedic were winched down from the RACQ Lifeflight Rescue helicopter to render aid to Mr Tratt, who had suffered significant injuries to his leg from the attack.

But despite working to save him for more than an hour, he died at the scene.

Tributes have started to flow on social media for the Sunshine Coast dad.

Mr Tratt's grieving wife, Kayla, changed her profile photo to a picture of the two of them together on Facebook overnight.

"We can't comprehend what you are going though right now Kayla," friend Stacey Bates commented on the photo.

"Our hearts are hurting for you and the kids so much.

"This is a gorgeous photo, you have so many pictures and beautiful memories to cherish in your heart forever."

Another friend, Wayne Stievano, also expressed his heartbreak at the tragedy.

"Still can't believe your (sic) gone Matthew Tratt," he wrote in a post on Facebook.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk also paid her own tributes to Mr Tratt today.

"(It is) very tragic and, of course, our condolences go out to the family of the man who lost his life off the coast of Fraser Island in that brutal shark attack," she said.

Mr Tratt is the third Queenslander to die from a shark attack in as many months.
