Man arrested for stealing Frances McDormand’s Oscar

American star Frances McDormand had an eventful evening at the Oscars, winning Best Actress and receiving accolades for turning her Oscars speech into a moment of feminist solidarity.

She even managed to spark a Twitterstorm over two words in her acceptance speech, which left many Google searching their meaning.

But the drama didn’t end there.

McDormand was celebrating her second Best Actress win for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri at the Governor’s Ball when she realised her trophy had disappeared.

The Hollywood star was spotted crying emotionally outside the ball after giving up searching for the Oscar and leaving the event with her husband, filmmaker Joel Coen, according to USA Today.

Security was dispatched to take up the search, which fortunately had already been engraved with the star’s name at the Governor’s Ball.

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed they've arrested a man named Terry Bryant over the alleged theft.

The 47-year-old has now been charged for grand theft and had bail set at $20,000 (AU$25,778).

McDormand has been reunited with her trophy.

"Fran and Oscar are happily reunited and are enjoying an In-N-Out burger together," the actress’ representative Simon Halls told USA Today in an email.
