Four dead, two critical in Vic crash

Four people are dead and two others are in a critical condition in hospital after a car crash in northern Victoria.

The crash happened on the Heathcote-Rochester Road at Burramboot just before 10pm (AEDT) on Saturday, police say.

Two people in one car died, while three others in the same car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two people from the other car died at the scene.

John Mullen from Ambulance Victoria said two people were airlifted to Melbourne hospitals following the crash.

One man was taken to the Alfred with head injuries and is in a critical, but stable condition.

A second man was taken to the Royal Melbourne with abdominal injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.

A third man, who also had abdominal injuries, was taken by road ambulance to Bendigo Hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

All injured persons are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.
