Foster once jumped from bridge in undies

PETER FOSTER'S GREAT ESCAPES

FIJI, 2006

Dressed in nothing but a pair of undies, Foster leaps from a bridge into a river in Fiji to escape police chasing him for forgery.

His Bond-style escape plan comes dramatically unstuck when he hits his head on the propeller of a boat.

In undignified scenes captured by TV news cameras, he's bundled, semi-unconscious, into a police van and winds up under guard in hospital.

Foster then goes on a hunger strike, preventing hospital staff from handing him over to police because he's too weak.

He eventually convinces authorities to let him stay at a swanky hotel, but manages to flee despite being under house arrest.

Foster surfaces a short time later, claiming he's under the protection of then-coup leader Frank Bainimarama and that he has evidence of corruption within Fiji's ousted government.

Foster then disappears again.

VANUATU, 2007

Foster turns up in Vanuatu.

He's spotted being lowered in a dinghy over the side of a converted minesweeper that was on a salvage expedition off the coast.

Witnesses tell of watching Foster wade ashore in his underwear, carrying his belongings in a plastic bag held above his head.

He later tries unsuccessfully to escape police by jumping out the window of a house where he was hiding.

Foster was fined $A2,000 and served three weeks in jail for illegally entering Vanuatu.

On his last night in Port Vila, he's the guest of honour at the four-star Chantilly Hotel, where he enjoys a steak meal with his jailers.

When he flies back to Australia police are waiting, and he's arrested and charged with money laundering.

Foster later admits misusing a $300,000 loan from the Bank of the Federated States of Micronesia to pay off his own credit cards and help pay the debts of family and friends.

He serves part of a four-and-a-half year jail term and upon release in May 2009 tells the media he has no further interest in money and just wants to find a soulmate and have kids.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, 2013

Foster vanishes after failing to front court for flouting a 2005 ban on participating in the weight-loss industry. The ban was imposed after he conned $6 million from 90 investors in the infamous SensaSlim scam.

In his absence Foster is sentenced to a three-year jail term and a new warrant is issued for his arrest.

In Foster's typical catch-me-if-you-can style, he later tells the Australian media he's fled to Fiji.

He even sends photos of himself reading a Fijian newspaper with a bowl of kava perched on a table in front of him.

NEAR BYRON BAY, AUSTRALIA, 2014:

Police arrest a wild-haired and portly Foster in northern NSW, after a tip off from the media.

The barefoot Foster tries but fails to outrun pursuing officers, who later announce he'll be charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest.

He's taken to hospital after his arrest, complaining of health problems but is later released. He was due to front a Tweed Heads court on Wednesday, October 29.
