Former The Bachelor contestant dies in apparent suicide

A former contestant on The Bachelor in the US has died after an apparent suicide.

Lex McAllister, who appeared on Season 14 of the reality dating show, took an overdose of sleeping pills, E! News reports.

The 31-year-old reportedly texted an unidentified loved one, telling them she wanted to take her own life.

The friend then went to McAllister’s house and found her surrounded by empty prescription bottles.

McAllister was rushed to hospital in a stable condition but her health began to deteriorate and she was taken off life support on Tuesday morning.

McAllister was 25 years old when she appeared on The Bachelor and was eliminated in the first episode.

This is the second tragedy to have struck Season 14 of the show, with another contestant also taking her own life.

Model and third runner-up Gia Allemand was found dead by her NBA basketball player boyfriend Ryan Anderson at their home in 2013.
