Former RBA governor Knight dies aged 95

Former Reserve Bank governor Sir Harold Knight has died aged 95.

Known to his friends and family as Harry, he led the central bank from 1975 to 1982.

His grandson, broadcaster and writer Dom Knight, said his grandfather died peacefully on Friday.

Sir Harry served in the army, navy and public service and had five children and 15 grandchildren.

He was educated at Scotch College and Melbourne University and was appointed KBE in 1980.

A portrait by grandson Jasper Knight was shortlisted for the Archibald Prize in 2006.
