Former RAAF chief Geoff Brown is joining the board of Lockheed Martin Australia, the local subsidiary of the giant US aerospace company.

Retired Air Marshall Brown headed the RAAF from 2011 to 2015 and during his 35-year career flew Chinook helicopters and F-111 and Hornet jets.

Lockheed Martin Australian chief executive Raydon Gates said most significantly he was the architect of Plan Jericho which aimed to transform air force capabilities to take full advantage of latest technology.
