A former Liberal MP who lost his seat at the federal election has been embroiled in a breach of election advertising rules.

A radio spot broadcast in June by a western Sydney station failed to declare former Macarthur MP Russell Matheson as the speaker in the ad.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority in a statement said the broadcaster, radio C91.3, has taken steps to ensure future compliance with rules which require the name of every speaker in election ads.
