Forget the brochures, Aussies reveal the best spots worth visiting

If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in peak-hour traffic and wondered if the grass is greener elsewhere - our nine.com.au survey has found your answer. 

But before you sell up and order those packing boxes - it turns out most of our readers already live in the best place.

Nine.com.au surveyed 1000 Aussies as part of our Your Local, Your Say campaign to find out the best and worst things about where people live. 

And a whopping third of those surveyed said they loved where they lived because they never had to leave their suburb on a weekend. 

Another 36 per cent said being able to use public transport and get to work easily was one of the best things about their area, while 31 per cent said they enjoyed being able to call on friends and relatives who live nearby.

“[There are] lots of good Indian restaurants, playgrounds… close to public transport,” Neeraj from Truganina in Melbourne’s fast-growing western suburbs said.

From the survey almost  20 per cent of Aussies said their suburb had the best coffee, while six per cent said their local area had the best schooner in all of Australia.

Others specifically said living close to beaches and walking trails were also important factors.

George Dimaris has lived in Cremorne on Sydney’s lower North Shore for more than a decade and said the Cremorne foreshore to Mosman Bay walk is a hidden gem that makes you become one with nature while on the doorstep of the bustling Sydney CBD.

“It’s just beautiful because of the scenery, the quiet, the bird life,” he told nine.com.au. It’s just lovely walking along there. 

“It makes your mind relax.”

He said he takes any overseas visitors here and feels lucky to live in Cremorne because of having nature escapes like the walk, while being able to access the best Sydney has to offer in terms of activities and restaurants.

Natalie Bennet, from Galston, in Sydney’s Hills District, said she loved driving through Galston Gorge, while Angela from North Epping in Sydney’s north-west said she enjoyed the bush walks in the surrounding national parks, especially on the way to Whale Rock.

“I’m on 2.5 acres, so I’ve got the best of both worlds, I’ve got the country living and city only five minutes down the road,” Colin from Sunbury west of Melbourne told nine.com.au.

He said despite being on the fringe of a massive city, the suburb retains its community mindset.

“Everybody supports the locals around here, which is really good, [the] cafes and restaurants,” he said.

Around 20 per cent of respondents agreed that they looked to stay in their suburb to support local businesses, believing their area had the best food on offer.
