Lin family bodies were moved after brutal murders says forensics expert in Robert Xie trial

New details have emerged of the deaths of a family of Sydney residents in the Robert Xie murder trial.

Mr Xie has been accused of the murder of five of his family members.

Newsagent Norman "Min" Lin, his wife Lily, two sons, and sister-in-law Irene were found dead in their North Epping home on July 18, 2009.

They had been fatally beaten and stabbed.

A forensics expert testifying at Mr Xie's trial today has revealed more details about how the family was killed.

The expert said it was likely Min Lin was killed first, followed by Lily, who was partially risen from bed when attacked.

Both bodies were then probably moved so the torsos were resting off the bed, and Min Lin was covered with a doona.

Blood staining also indicated Irene Lin had been moved after she was killed so her legs were off the bed, the forensics officer said.

Mr Xie is accused of murdering the family out of envy and in an attempt to gain control of their monetary assets.

He has pleaded not guilty.
