"We are delighted that so many of our family and friends could share this special day with us," she wrote.

Invitations to the event were only sent out late last year, according to reports by Nine newspaper the Sydney Morning Herald.

Guests in attendance reportedly included the Prime Minister and his partner Jodie Haydon, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Health Minister Mark Butler and Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

The couple's two children Alexandra, 12, and Hannah, 8, were flower girls in the ceremony.

The high profile Labor frontbencher met Allouache nearly 20 years ago in 2007.

Senator Wong passionately defended her family and campaigned for same-sex marriage both inside and outside of Parliament before it was legalised in 2017.
