Foreign agent register one step closer

A portion of the federal government's plan to stamp out foreign inference in Australian politics has hit parliament.

The legislation forces people acting on behalf of foreign powers to reveal the relationship and detail their activities on a public register.

Such people would have 14 days to register after writs are issued for the next federal election, Attorney General Christian Porter told the lower house as he introduced the bill on Wednesday.
