Terrifying video shows moment family escapes burning home after arson attack

Terrifying video shows the moment a family escapes from their burning home in Sydney's south-west.

The family, including a baby and a toddler, had been fast asleep in their Mount Pritchard home when their neighbour began banging on the door to tell them their house was on fire.

"When they came running out the door, I took the baby off her, and they went and got the other little girl," Frank Mariani said.

"They were literally in so much shock."

The blaze was no accident, with the family's two Mercedes torched around 1am which caused the entire carport to erupt into flames.

Neighbours alleged there was accelerant in the carport which fuelled the fire.

"A five-litre fuel can that was already alight, the accelerants all placed in bags," Mariani said.

"It felt like a bomb and a gunshot at the same time," neighbour Zabel Sarkis said.

Police seized a number of "items of significance" after the fire.

The motive for the arson attack is not yet known and the family says they have no idea why they were targeted.

"They were removed from their home without being injured which is in this situation of utmost importance," Acting Inspector Troy Williams said.

Investigations into the fire are continuing.
