Popular Smith's chips sold across Australia recalled due to injury, illness fears
A product recall has been issued for a popular range of Smith's chips sold across the country.
A range of original and cheese and onion Smith's varieties have been recalled over fears the chips have been potentially contaminated by plastic pieces, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) announced.
"The Smith's Snackfood Company Pty Limited is conducting a recall of Smith's cheese and onion 45g and 170g, and Smith's original six pack, and Smith's original 19g included in the 20 pack Fun Mix," FSANZ said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Smith's cheese and onion packs were available for sale in Woolworths, Coles and independent and convenience stores in NSW and Queensland.
"The Smith's original packs were available for sale in Woolworths, Coles, IGA, and independent and convenience stores in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia."

The affected packets have the following best-before dates:
- Smith's cheese and onion 45g and 170g: Best before September 17, 2023 (marked with DA), timestamp between 20:28 – 22:28
- Smith's original six pack and Smith's original 19g included in the 20 pack Fun Mix: Best Before September 10, 2023
FSANZ warned that anyone who has bought the chips should not eat them, due to the risk of illness or injury posed by the plastic pieces, and should instead contact Smith's for a refund.
