A Perth father claims he suffered seizures after a pharmacy-administered flu shot caused nerve damage.

Michael McGrady told 9News the horror jab was given two weeks ago at a pharmacy in Perth’s southern suburbs.

The 34-year-old Victoria Park dad claims the pharmacist administered the injection in his upper back.

He said he was hospitalised, where he was told the needle had hit an important nerve.

"It was later on that night, I went to sleep, I actually woke up at 2am having convulsions, the seizures lasted for about 30 minutes,” Mr McGrady said.

Mr McGrady describes himself as a “pro-vaxxer” and is still urging people to get the flu shot.

But he claims he’ll be taking his ordeal to the national regulator as he’s now in constant pain and has been unable to work.

“I've had constant issues with my sight, can't focus properly, I have a constant metallic taste in my mouth, been unable to move my neck, really lift anything and a headache which won't go away and constant vertigo."

The pharmacy denies administering the flu shot in a patient's back.

It said its two pharmacists are qualified to give injections and neither have received a complaint.

This is the third flu-season community pharmacies have been administering vaccines with over one million delivered across the state.

“I think it's very important that the administration of the vaccine is a safe thing and it's potentially life-saving for us to be having this vaccination and we wouldn't like people to feel unsafe about getting their vaccines," Peter Rees from the Pharmacy Guild said.
