Sandbags distributed ahead of heavy rainfall across Adelaide

The South Australian State Emergency Service will distribute sandbags in preparation for heavy rainfall expected across the state from tomorrow.

Thunderstorms and a heavy band of rain are expected to hit  tomorrow and Thursday, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned.

Rainfall totals are expect to reach between 30mm and 100mm, potentially causing water levels in creeks and rivers to rapidly rise.

South Australian residents will be able to collect sandbags from the SES at a variety of locations at Mount Gambier, Riverland and the Mid North until 9pm.

Adelaide’s metropolitan areas, the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Mid North have all been issued flood watch warnings from tomorrow afternoon.

The SES advises that all community members should:

Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater,

Never allow children to play in floodwater,

Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain,

Keep well clear of fallen power lines

Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
