Carnarvon and Exmouth residents are bracing for flooding after a warning was issued for north Western Australia.

The Bureau of Meteorology expects widespread rainfall of 40mm to 60mm over the next 48 hours, with isolated falls up to 100mm forecast for the northern parts of the Gascoyne District more than 1000km north of Perth.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said people in Exmouth, Canarvon, Minilya and Upper Gascoyne should prepare for possible flooding as rising river waters may develop in the northern parts of the Gascoyne District over the coming days.
