Flights delayed as Brisbane shrouded in thick fog

Thick fog is causing flight delays in Brisbane for the second day in a row with visibility low and precipitation high.

The city has been blanketed by the fog with sky scrapers only just visible through the clouds.

As of 7am today, 11 domestice flights were recorded as delayed, along with one international flight, on the Brisbane Airport website.

Motorists are advised to take care on roads, with four incidents already reported in the last hour, according to Queensland traffic tracker Snarl.

The fog rolled in around 3am but will be short-lived, Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Michael Knepp told 9news.com.au.

“It’s radiation fog which develops because of cooling,” he explained.

“It needs clear skies, moisture at the surface and light winds.”

Mr Knepp assured Brisbane residents the fog will start clearing within the hour as the sun “penetrates the fog” and the day heats up.

Fog has been plaguing the city for the last couple of weeks, with flight delays also hampering travel last week.

Mr Knepp said the fog is normal for this time of year and is expected to keep returning throughout the colder months.
