Flatulence cuts opera singer's career short

A US opera singer claims she is unable to work after a botched operation during childbirth left her suffering excessive flatulence and incontinence.
Amy Herbst is suing the US government after the botched procedure at an army hospital in February 2012.
A nurse performed an episiotomy on Mrs Herbst without her consent during labour, but other staff at the hospital were later unable to repair the incision, her lawsuit claims.
The episiotomy is intended to make giving birth easier, but the nurse inadvertently cut the tissue separating her anus and vagina.
A mezzosoprano who lives in Cincinnati, Mrs Herbst said her excessive wind and incontinence stops her working as a professional opera singer.
"Her incontinence makes performing with any regularity impossible," her attorney wrote to the Associated Press.
An operation to repair the procedure would require her to undergo C-sections for any future pregnancies, and would not stop her excess flatulence.
Mrs Herbst and her husband are seeking $2.5 million in damages and costs.
