Five top greyhound trainers banned for life in Queensland after live baiting scandal

Racing Queensland has dished out a life ban to five of the state’s most prominent greyhound trainers who were caught using live pigs, possums and rabbits to lure their race dogs.

Tom Noble, Tony McCable, Debra Arnold, James Harding and former Hall of Fame trainer Reg Kay have all been stripped of their licence to train and race greyhounds.

They have also been barred from ever entering a greyhound track or betting on a race again.

Queensland Racing’s Kevin Dixon said they were “not fit” to enter any greyhound racecourse in the state.

“All of the dogs that they had training responsibility for, where they also had ownership, will also now be disqualified,” he said.

Greg Stella survived the board's wrath, while Michael Champan's case was adjourned.

9NEWS understands Queensland Police has launched a special taskforce to investigate the claims of animal cruelty.

Police intend to seize a video of an interview 9NEWS did with Tom Noble two weeks ago.

Mr Noble, 68, had been training grehounds since he was 14.

He told 9NEWS he accepted the board’s decision.

It could be weeks before charges are laid, but if the trainers are found guilty, each count carries a potential penalty of a $33,000 fine or two years in jail.
