Five injured after car collides with pedestrians in Adelaide CBD

A man accused of ploughing his car into Christmas shoppers in Adelaide has been charged with reckless driving.

The man, 40, was charged in his hospital bed after the incident near the popular Rundle Mall yesterday.

The driver and four others were seriously injured after a car he allegedly lost control of his vehicle while passing through the intersection of Pulteney Street and Rundle Street after 4pm.

Four women were left with serious non-life threatening injuries and the driver himself received serious injuries in the crash.

All five were taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

Roads around the area were closed while police investigated conditions surrounding the crash.

Officers are reviewing CCTV and witness statements but said they do not believe the crash was intentional.
