Gold Coast fisherman's body recovered after he swam after adrift boat

Police divers have this morning recovered the body of a fisherman from the Broadwater on Queensland's Gold Coast.

The man, 52, is believed to have been yabbying earlier today with his adult son on Wave Break Island, when his boat became adrift.

"The man swam out in the rough conditions in an attempt to retrieve the boat but failed to return to shore," a spokesperson for Queensland Police said.

"Police were notified around 6.30am and launched a full-scale air, land and sea search.

"The man's body was located by police divers around 9.20am."
