First indigenous woman on rights watchdog

The first indigenous woman has been appointed to the Australian Human Rights Commission.

June Oscar is the new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social justice commissioner at the human rights watchdog.

Attorney-General George Brandis praised Ms Oscar's accomplishments and said he had kept his eye out for a person with the practical experience of achieving real outcomes to make peoples lives better.
