Customs chief Roman Quaedvlieg will be the first commissioner of Australian Border Force.
The new agency combines the border control functions of the immigration department and customs service into a single integrated agency and will be in operation from July 1.
Mr Quaedvlieg, a career police officer who previously had senior positions within the Australian Federal Police and the Australian Crime Commission, will have a five-year statutory term, ABC radio reports.
