A volunteer firefighter is recovering in hospital after being struck by lightning at his Perth home as a storm front moved through the city.

A spokesman for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said the man fell to the ground after being hit by lightning at his Parmelia house this morning.

He was checked by paramedics before being taken to hospital "suffering a little anxiety".

A Rockingham Hospital spokeswoman said the man was in a stable condition.

Beaches were closed earlier this morning as a result of the lightning. Surf Life Saving WA urged beach go-ers to get out of the water and stay off the beach.
