Fire trucks called to Parliament not terror-related

Hazmat and fire trucks looked alarming outside the ministerial entrance to Parliament House in Canberra tonight as security was being beefed up to prevent a potential terror attack.

But ACT Fire and Rescue commander Stephen Gibbs says their response had nothing to do with any terror threat - they were responding to a fire alarm in the building.

"Absolutely nothing. It is purely a standard response for us," he said.

"There is an electrical fault in one of the servers that we are trying to track down."

Two trucks responded, and two police cars helped block the road in front of the minister's carpark.

Commander Gibbs said no one was evacuated and they were still hoping to find the fault.
