Fierce fire destroys house in Hawthorne, Brisbane

A home in the Brisbane suburb of Hawthorne has been destroyed by a fierce fire, which has sent thick smoke over the surrounding neighbourhood. 

9NEWS helicopter footage shows the two-level timber Amy Street residence engulfed by the ferocious blaze.

Multiple fire crews are battling the inferno, after they were first called about 2pm.

Footage shows about a dozen firefighters hosing down the house.

Thick smoke has spewed over the neighbourhood and the nearby Brisbane River.

All of the home's occupants have been accounted for, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said.
