Police investigating reports of trespassers at Adelaide home devastated by fire

Police are investigating reports of trespassers visiting a home in the Adelaide Hills devastated by a ferocious fire.

One man was filmed by Nine News around 5am walking through the home with a torch, and said he was "just having a look".

The fire has caused up to half a million dollars in damage.                                    

Crews were called to the home in Mount Barker late yesterday afternoon after neighbours reported hearing explosions.

Emergency crews said the fire began in the car port while the home owner was transferring gas from one cylinder to another.

The fire quickly spread to the home, completely gutting it.

“The fire was one of the most intense we have had around here in some time,” firefighter Andrew Chapman said.

“The roof has burnt through and caved in and the house was a light from end to end.”

One woman was treated by paramedics for minor cuts.

The home owner was taken to hospital because his sleep apnoea machine was destroyed in the fire.

Residents living near the home were evacuated but have since been allowed to return home.
