A Melbourne man awoke to find his bedroom on fire after several petrol bombs were hurled at his home early this morning.

Police believe four Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Box Hill South property shortly before 6am, narrowly missing one of the occupants.

One of the petrol bombs smashed through the window of the Surrey Street home, landing near Richard Baldasso, who was asleep at the time.

Two other people were asleep inside the house at the time, including Achut Uprati who woke to crackling sounds.

“There was a fire blazing – and he told me ‘can call the police, can you call the police’,” he said.

Mr Baldasso, 27, managed to douse the fire using a saucepan of water.

Amazingly no one was hurt during the incident.

While the occupants say they have no idea why they were targeted.

“These people next door like to party, every weekend,” Mr Baldasso said.

“I don’t know.”

Police are still investigating the attack and forensic officers and arson chemists spent the morning collecting evidence.
