Russell Street bombing movie being filmed in Melbourne's CBD

Melbourne's CBD has been transformed into a movie set today, with traffic shut out of the normally busy street.

The film is about the Russell Street bombing which rocked the city in 1986.

Passers-by have reported witnessing smoke and debris from the movie set, as well as vintage 80s cars and actors in costume.

Convicted Russell Street bomber Craig Minogue killed police officer Constable Angela Taylor and injured 22 others when he bombed the Russell Street police station in 1986.

Minogue was jailed for life with a non-parole period of 28 years.

Victoria Police advised Russell Street between Victoria Street and La Trobe Street, along with MacKenzie Street, will remain closed until midnight tonight.

"Filming will be taking place around the Melbourne CBD and Carlton areas on Tue 2 and Wed 3 February," Victoria Police said on Twitter.

"Please be aware that there may be smoke and debris during filming."

A number of footpaths will be also be closed during filming.

Filming also took place yesterday on Carlton streets, causing some roads and footpaths to close.
