Australia has ramped up disaster assistance to cyclone-ravaged Fiji with an extra $10 million in aid.

The money will provide food, clean water, hygiene and shelter for communities left homeless and brings assistance so far to a total of $15 million, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Monday.

Sixteen more health workers will be sent to Fiji on top of the medical team of six already deployed there.
