Squabble over girl sends Sydney school into lockdown

A squabble over a girl is believed to be behind an attack on a student that forced a western Sydney school into lockdown.

The 16-year-old male attacker allegedly jumped the Hill's Sports High School counter and attacked another male student, also 16, around 2:30pm (AEDT).

Mt Druitt Chief Inspector Bill Pearce said the victim’s neck was hurt.

"It was a simple matter and no one’s been seriously injured," he said.

"The victim suffered minor soreness to his neck."

The victim's brother said he learnt of the alleged attack after his father rang him.

"Apparently he (the attacker) jumped the office counter and went for my little brother," he said.

He said he cannot imagine why anyone would want to hurt him.

A male teenager, who was not a student at the school, was taken to Blacktown police station for questioning.

At this stage no charges have been laid.
