Fifth man arrested over Manus protest where Christine Forster was roughed up

A fifth man has been arrested over a violent Sydney protest during which the sister of former prime minister Tony Abbott was shoved around by asylum seeker supporters.

The 20-year-old was arrested by detectives at a home in Freshwater, northern Sydney, yesterday afternoon – more than a week after the Liberal Party fundraiser in Redfern was targeted by activists.

During the protest, Sydney Councillor Christine Forster was roughed up by the crowd and had her jacket ripped.

The man was charged with common assault and granted bail ahead of an appearance at Downing Centre Local Court on December 11.

Police have arrested four other men – aged 24, 27, 31 and 32 – over the rally after publicly releasing photographs and asking for public help tracking down those responsible for the violence.

Mr Abbott on Monday criticised the "disgraceful behaviour" of protesters, saying his elderly parents who were also there were shaken.
