Woman charged with murder over shooting death of Ferenc 'David' Stemler, alleged gunman arrested

A pregnant woman has been charged with murder and an alleged gunman arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in south-west Sydney last year.

At about 2am on July 27, police were called to Broughton Street in Canterbury to reports of gunfire.

Ferenc "David" Stemler, 28, had been shot and died at the scene.

Police said today that Stemler had links to organised crime but was not a "major player" in Sydney's underworld.

"We're not making any suggestion on his involvement in organised crime in particular, he is a local man, he grew up with a number of people in the area," Detective Inspector Virginia Gorman of the Homicide Squad said.

Stemler was friends with two victims of a suspected gangland shooting in Marrickville last year, Gorman said.

At about 7am yesterday, detectives arrested Rhylee Stig, 23, in Wetherill Park.

Stig, who is pregnant, was charged with murder and refused bail.

She appeared in court yesterday, where she was formally refused bail to next appear on April 18.

Police allege she was involved in organising the shooting and was previously "completely unknown" to investigators.

At about 9.40am today, Sione Langi, 27, was arrested in a correctional facility.

Police expect to charge him with murder as the alleged gunman.

Police said the man and pregnant woman are known to each other.

More arrests are expected to be made.
