Feeney's fate rests with Labor caucus

The fate of Labor MP David Feeney's frontbench position rests in the hands of his colleagues, with some in the shadow ministry stopping short of endorsing him.

Mr Feeney retained his Melbourne seat of Batman but suffered an 8.9 point swing against him after a strong campaign by the Greens and revelations he'd forgotten to declare ownership of a $2.3 million negatively geared house.

Frontbench colleague Jim Chalmers said he had a lot of time for Mr Feeney, but his future as opposition spokesman for justice and veterans' affairs rested in the hands of caucus, which chooses the frontbench.
