Father vanishes from Sydney hotel

Phuoc Minh Nguyen walked out of a Hilton hotel in Sydney's CBD late on the night of May 1, telling his sister-in-law he needed to sort out a "complication" with a business associate, and was never seen again.

Police fear the 50-year-old was murdered and are investigating links to organised crime, Fairfax Media report.

Mr Nguyen, a Baker's Delight franchise owner, had answered a series of distressing phone calls before leaving the hotel in a gold Renault Latitude rental car to meet his associate in Bankstown.

He had spent his final hours shopping in the city with his sister-in-law but started acting strangely when the phone calls began, his brother Tony Nguyen said.

He handed his sister-in-law's passport back to her that night and reportedly said: "I'm meeting up with someone and it could be complicated."

He was supposed to pick her up from the hotel lobby the next morning but he never returned.

Police have been unable to find the rental car he left in, which had Victorian registration plates ZXH305, and he has not accessed his bank accounts, Facebook profile or contacted any family or friends.

The brother said Mr Nguyen had no criminal history and even though he separated from his wife last year he would never abandon the son he loved.

He described Mr Ngyen as a "loving father" and a "successful businessman" who recently sold two Baker’s Delight bakeries, an Asian bakery and a pizzeria, all in Sydney.
