A father has been detained by police after his four-year-old son died of multiple stab wounds in Adelaide's northeastern suburbs.
Police confirmed the boy died after allegedly being stabbed by his father who is now being detained by police at a hospital.
Police were attending the scene of a minor car accident in Athelstone when the father allegedly got out of his vehicle to tell police his son was injured.

The boy was rushed to Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital where he died.
