Father and son rescued after going missing on hike

A father and son are being winched to safety after going missing on a two-day hike at a national park in south-east Queensland.

The men set off on an expedition through dense bushland at Mount Barney National Park on Saturday, and failed to return yesterday night.

Authorities were alerted that the pair were missing, sparking a widespread search.

Police said they have today made contact with the men, and a rescue helicopter is currently hovering above an area of the park.

It is understood the father, aged in his 50s, and his son, aged in his 20s, are both experienced bushwalkers.

Their rescue comes after a weekend of wild weather in Queensland, with more than 130,000 lightning strikes recorded in the south-east yesterday.
