Aussies take to social media to share joy of Socceroos win and same-sex marriage survey result

Australians have declared today "one of the best" in recent times, after the Socceroos qualified for the World Cup and the results of the marriage equality survey were released.

Many took to social media to express their happiness in the 3-1 win over Honduras, and the perfect timing for it to happen on the day 61 per cent of Australian voters said "yes" in the postal vote.

Socceroos star Tim Cahill proudly posted team photos from the locker room after the win, cheering: "4 WORLD CUPS".

Captain Mile Jedinak was the hero of the night for the Socceroos, scoring two goals via penalty and another through a free-kick which was later ruled to be an own goal.
