An Adelaide man watching TV was left stunned when a large gum tree came crashing into his lounge room – just two metres from where he sat.

“I was watching TV, just finished my orange juice, and then… I did not hear a crack – nothing – then the ceiling caved in,” Daw Park man David Bartley told 9NEWS.

“I’ve been living under this tree for 30 odd years waiting for (it) to fall.”

The bulk of the large gum tree fell onto Mr Bartley’s car port, with the branch ripping a large hole in his ceiling.

State Emergency Service members in South Australia have had a relatively quiet night with two calls for assistance.

Adelaide is due for possible thunderstorms this afternoon, with light winds becoming southerly 15 to 25km/h as the day goes on.

A top of 34 degrees is forecast.
