Extremist election allegation aired in Vic

Victorian Labor premier Daniel Andrews says prime minister Scott Morrison needs to answer questions about the far-right's involvement in last year's Victorian election.

Mr Andrews asked in parliament on Wednesday what involvement far-right extremist Neil Erikson had in November's state election, which resulted in Labor being returned to power with an increased margin.

"We have very serious questions that need to be answered," Mr Andrews told the lower house.

"And they can only be answered by the prime minister, in relation to the alleged engagement of convicted extremists to interfere in the Victorian election conducted last year. To pit one Victorian against another."

He made the comments the day after West Australian federal Liberal MPs Ian Goodenough and Andrew Hastie were caught up in claims they met Mr Erikson at a rally in Perth last year.

Mr Goodenough says he had a brief inadvertent encounter with Mr Erikson but didn't know who he was, while Mr Hastie is confident he didn't meet the convicted extremist.

Mr Erikson, previously found guilty of inciting contempt against Muslims, is linked to anti-immigration group the United Patriots Front which organises street rallies opposed by anti-racist groups.
