EXP: Australian response to Syrian crisis
AUSTRALIA'S HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE - SYRIA/IRAQ REFUGEE CRISIS
* Take an extra 12,000 refugees from the region, on top of the annual humanitarian intake of 13,750.
* They will be offered permanent resettlement.
* The focus will be on women, children and families from persecuted minorities who have sought temporary refuge in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey
* Australian immigration officials will work with the United Nations refugee agency to identify who will come, subject to normal security, health and character checks.
* $44 million to the United Nations refugee agency and other organisations to help deliver food, water, blankets and emergency supplies to 240,000 people in countries neighbouring Syria and Iraq
* RAAF bombers will enter Syrian airspace to hit Islamic State targets only.
* Australian military will not be targeting the Assad regime in Syria.
* Legal basis for the attacks is collective self-defence of Iraq
