Excavator driver filmed crushing ATM while trying to steal it

A clumsy excavator driver has been filmed on CCTV crushing an ATM in the US in an attempt to steal it.

The footage, released by police, shows the yellow excavator approaching the money machine in Maryland yesterday.

The suspect then smashes the machine at least seven times with the vehicle's arm, but is unable to grasp it.

The driver gave up and fled the scene without cash, police said.

Authorities told RT the attempted robbery caused at least $13,000 in damage.
