A former Australian Federal Police deputy commissioner will fight allegations he abused his position in a court hearing in August.

Ramzi Jabbour has pleaded not guilty to possessing a prohibited firearm and abusing his position as a senior officer.

ACT Magistrates Court heard on Thursday Jabbour will contest the charges at a three-day hearing.

He was not present in court.

He was stood down from the AFP in March last year pending a professional standards investigation.

Jabbour then resigned from the AFP in August 2019, after a 30-year career in the force.
