Ex-bikie's bail varied for religious event

Former Adelaide bikie Vince Focarelli has been given permission to travel to Melbourne with people from his mosque to attend a traditional religious festival.

Focarelli, who has survived six attempts on his life, is charged with an aggravated count of assault and two counts of driving in a dangerous manner last November.

The 39-year-old and his son, Giuseppe, 18, originally also faced kidnapping charges over the same incident, but they were dropped in March.

Their strict home detention bail conditions were varied to require them to report to police twice weekly after the major charges were dropped.

In the Adelaide magistrates court on Tuesday, Vince Focarelli's lawyer asked for a bail variation so his client could travel to Melbourne for the festival gathering over the Easter weekend which will include about 150 people from his mosque.

After the police prosecutor said the variation was not opposed, Magistrate Bob Harrup said that, notwithstanding his reluctance, the application was granted.

The case will return to court on May 15.
