A crazed driver was eventually arrested by police after allegedly leading them on a wild chase through Melbourne’s south-east, leaving an officer injured.

A witness filmed the man at the end of the chase at a KFC restaurant at Springvale Junction, where a number of police officers can be seen negotiating with him.

Officers first tried to pull the man over on the Princes Highway in Mulgrave before 10pm last night, to which the man allegedly responded by throwing an item at the police car.

He then sped off onto the Princes Highway where he allegedly side-swiped another police car on Springvale Road in Springvale.

The driver of the police car suffered a minor injury.

Around 20 minutes later, the man was again allegedly spotted driving dangerously. He drove into a drive-through of the KFC restaurant before allegedly ramming into the restaurant, and a parked car.

The 20-year-old Narre Warren man was arrested and is facing charges of evade police, discharge a weapon, speed dangerous, careless drive, fail to stop after an accident, fail to render assistance after an accident, possess drug of dependence, refuse breath test and several other traffic offence offences.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
