High-speed crash connected to attempted break-ins in Melbourne

A high-speed crash that seriously injured two teens in Melbourne's north overnight, is believed to be linked to a string of attempted break-ins.

Police said four teenagers were inside a white MG hatch when they allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Civic Drive and McDonalds Road in Epping about 2.25am.

They collided with a black car in the intersection, resulting in two teens, aged 16 and 13 being rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

"It is believed two people from the MG have run from the scene leaving two teenagers in the car seriously injured," a police spokesperson said.

The driver of the black vehicle, a 30-year man, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police believe the group is connected to a string of attempted break-ins four days earlier in Kalkallo.

The teens were captured on CCTV on Brewster Drive, carrying what appears to be a machete.

They move from house to house, with a Hyundai hatchback and white MG stolen.

The MG is believed to be the car involved in today's incident, while the hatchback was dumped near Airport West, more than 30km away.

A Kalkallo resident has expressed safety concerns following the break-ins.

"They start from one end and they were checking the cars and doors, all of them," resident Sukhvinder Jammu said.

"You are more worried of course, you double-check your door."

Police are still searching for two teens who are on the run.
