Big discounts and enticing incentives offered in EOFY sales

The End of Financial Year sales are here, with retailers offering big discounts and enticing incentives.

If you buy a laptop with Acer, you could score a free night in a hotel; while Bing Lee is offering a $250 Mastercard gift voucher with some of its TVs.

The main selling point for many of these items is that they can be claimed back on tax in a month's time.

However, retail experts are warning retailers are offering customers: "whatever it takes to get you through the door".

CEO of Kelly+Partners business accountants Brett Kelly had a similar warning.

"Don't get swept up in these end of financial year sales," he told 9News.

"There's great tax benefits available, instant asset write off, immediate expensing, but make sure that from a cash flow perspective you're just buying the things that you really do need."

Depending on turnover business owners are entitled to a 27-30 per cent tax deduction on the amount spent, while for individuals it's based on personal tax rate.

In the past year retail spending rose 1.1 per cent in April. It was up by nearly 25 per cent for the year.

"Retailers had very strong growth right through 2020 which means this financial year we are going to see retailers pulling out all stops," Professor Mortimer said.
