Police found Norman Woodford alive in Emu Plains bushland. (9NEWS) 

An elderly man has been found alive in bushland at Emu Heights this afternoon, five days after he went missing.

Rescuers found Norman Woodford, 78, off Old Bathurst Road about 2.30pm (AEDT), after he was reported missing on Wednesday.

Mr Woodford has been taken to Nepean Hospital suffering dehydration and exhaustion, NSW Police Force said in a statement.

Police believed he walked off from his Emu Plains home, about 58km west of Sydney.

Investigators were particularly concerned for his welfare because he suffers a medical condition.

The disappearance was Mr Woodford’s third in as many years.
